ARUCC 2024 - Call for Proposals


We are excited to announce the Call for Speaker Proposals for the upcoming joint ARUCC & PCCAT Conference 2024, and we would like to open the opportunity for you to be a part of this national event.
This is a unique opportunity for you to showcase your expertise and make a meaningful contribution to the work of our organizations.

We are looking for speakers who can deliver compelling presentations, ignite discussions, and inspire our attendees. This year our theme for the event is Charting the Way Forward: Exploring New Paths to Success.

Our work in higher education is fast-paced and ever changing. Exploring innovative approaches to solving problems and achieving goals is more critical than ever. With a ‘build, learn, iterate’ outlook on continuous improvement and change, institutions are increasingly forging new paths to success to achieve EDI, transfer mobility, enrolment and student success goals.

  • AI solutions at work
  • Strategic enrolment management
  • Transitions from traditional systems and technology
  • Communities of practice, communication networks, competency-based pathways
  • Institutional/regional/national partnerships to facilitate credit transfer and learner mobility
  • System data, technology and tools and learner access to information to support pathways & mobility.
  • Research and/or cross-institutional initiatives on current registrarial issues, such as micro-credentials & credential recognition
  • Change as a positive impact
  • Creativity in soft skills development for teams
  • Innovation in equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Collaboration on inter- and intra-provincial pathways and partnerships
  • Competency development to support change
  • Any topic relevant to the work of our members

Please read the proposal and submission guidelines thoroughly before developing and submitting your session proposal. The ARUCC PCCAT Program Sub-committee will accept proposals that achieve balance across the Conference program on a range of topics and perspectives that represent the depth and breadth of ARUCC’s and PCCAT’s membership, emerging issues, regional and national interests, and institutional demographics.

Proposal guidelines:

  • We are accepting proposals for in-person presentations. Presentation formats include breakout sessions, panels and roundtables.
  • Sessions organized jointly with partners are particularly welcome; corporate members must partner with institutional or organization members on session submissions.
  • Presenters’ names, titles, and organizations will be used to promote the session.
  • Submitting authors certify that all co-authors have reviewed the proposal and agree to participate if accepted.
  • Your abstract must be written in the present tense.
  • Proposals must be submitted via Pheedloop - click here to access the link
  • You may save your submission and return to make edits by logging back into the website with your credentials.
  • Keep a copy of your proposal.
  • Deadline for proposal submissions is December 23rd, 2023 at 11:59 EST.

Our selection committee will review all submissions and notify selected speakers by January 17th, 2024.If your proposal is selected, you agree to provide your session in-person at the 2024 conference, and that you will register on/before the speaker registration deadline.

An ARUCC Statement: Access and Identity in Higher Education

In the last 48 hours the world of higher education in Canada and the United States have been reminded that social, cultural, and political issues still impact peoples’ ability to safely pursue education.

On Wednesday, there was a horrific hate-filled attack on a professor and their students in a Gender Studies course at the University of Waterloo. We continue to espouse that discrimination and violence have no place in our educational institutions, create programs to support our learners, and yet these acts continue to occur in our communities. This senseless act of violence has rocked a school and community.

Such actions result in questioning of ones own identity, beliefs and actions, and whether it is safe to express themselves openly. Our hearts go out to our colleagues at the University of Waterloo, their students and community members who are processing the impacts of these events, and know that we stand in solidarity with the community to uphold anti-discriminatory values and actions.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court in the United States rejected affirmative action at colleges and universities, citing that the race-conscious admissions programs at Harvard and the University of North Carolina were unlawful. This ruling has an impact on access to education for students who have been traditionally excluded from the higher education system in the United States and further creates a divide across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic lines. Although race-conscious admissions programs are not prevalent in Canada, there are several programs at our institutions that attempt to lift-up and recognize the impact that factors like inter-generational trauma, historical exclusion, racism and misogyny have done for learners. Advocacy to provide greater access to education for students should be at the top of our focus to continue to move education forward in our era.

As professionals in higher education in Canada, we are not immune to the impact on decisions like this in the United States. ARUCC will continue to work with our colleagues in the United States to support efforts to ensure greater access to education through the work of AACRAO and other partners.

As a Board we are working through a strategic planning process for the association and see inclusion, access, representation, and equity at the foundation of what we need to ensure exist in our community. The Board will be reflecting and consulting with membership on how we can support capacity in our institutional and collective efforts to meaningfully and equitably expand access to education.

Should you wish to do your own reflection and take action, here are some suggestions to bring awareness to these two events, and the systemic issues they are built from:

  1. speak about the impact gender-based violence has on our work environments and student safety;
  2. encourage education about the meaning free-speech and actively denounce hate-speech;
  3. reflect on admissions, recruitment and engagement programs that elevate and support those traditionally excluded from higher education, and what you can do to build, grow and support them further; and
  4. leverage school or provincially accessible student census, or student identity data to inform your professional practice.

It’s even more devastating that these events come at the end of Indigenous Peoples History Month and Pride Month but offers a reminder that our work continues to ensure greater education, equity and safety in our world.

These sessions are open to anyone working in the registrarial profession and are only available to our Institutional Members. There is no cost to attend these sessions.

ARUCC Town Hall - May 2

ARUCC Members are invited to participate in an ARUCC virtual Town Hall event on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 10 am PDT, 11 AM MDT, 12 Noon CDT, 1 PM EDT, 2 PM ADT and 2:30 NLDT. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with your association in advance of the ARUCC 2022 conference and get oriented to the latest developments.
 
During this Town Hall you can:
  • Learn about the Board’s proposed approach to developing an ARUCC strategic plan, including opportunities for input and member participation.
  • Discuss the development of ARUCC Communities of Practice.
  • Receive updates about ongoing work and the upcoming conference.

ARUCC Virtual Conference 2021

June 21-23, 2021

Join your ARUCC Colleagues for a 3-day webinar series between June 21–23, 2021.  

On Monday, June 21st we will hold our Annual General Meeting, followed by a quick update on the MyCreds™ | MesCertif™ project.

For the following two days, we will be hosting 8 webinar sessions (2 concurrent sessions in 4 time slots). Each will be facilitated by a member of the ARUCC Executive Committee and will include a short presentation and a forum for discussion. All virtual conference attendees will receive summary information with key take-aways and resources from all sessions.  There will be no charge for attendance at this conference. 

For people enquiring about the National Network, please register online for separate sessions which are provided at alternate days and times as this topic won't be covered in these bi-weekly sessions.
