Update
The SEM Summit is now part of the suite of services ARUCC manages to foster community, engagement, and the sharing of knowledge and practise across the Canadian postsecondary education registrarial and enrolment management sector.
Now called the ARUCC Canadian SEM Summit, the event will take place bi-annually in years opposite from the bi-annual ARUCC Conference.
The next upcoming ARUCC Canadian SEM Summit will be held in April 2025, location and dates to be announced soon!
About the ARUCC Canadian SEM Summit
The original SEM Summit began in 2008 when Summit founders and co-conveners Susan Gottheil and Clayton Smith brought together enrolment managers and thought leaders from across Canada for concentrated dialogue on contemporary challenges facing postsecondary enrolment.
The Summit met annually until 2019. COVID-19 resulted in a disruption to annual Summit planning. In 2022, the Summit returned in conjunction with the AACRAO SEM conference hosted in Toronto that year. The Summit now emerges again in 2025 under the umbrella of services offered and managed by ARUCC and will take place bi-annually going forward.
The Purpose of the ARUCC Canadian SEM Summit is to build the SEM profession in Canada.
The ARUCC Canadian SEM Summit is a day and a half of thought and dialogue. Participants (normally around 100) spend this time together in the same space, unlike a conference with plenary and breakout sessions. Under an overarching theme, facilitators briefly introduce a topic along with a framework to guide the discussion. Everyone participates!
The ARUCC Canadian SEM Summit is now planned and organised by a volunteer group of senior leaders from a variety of Canadian public postsecondary institutions as well as representation and support from the ARUCC Board of Directors and our partner organisation, AACRAO.
